2007, Change to Cortland Community Foundation
The Cortland Savings Foundation was created in 1998 by Cortland Savings Bank. A sizable endowment has allowed this private foundation to allocate over $800,000 to 41 different agencies since its inception.
After nearly ten years of helping local agencies as a private entity, the Cortland Savings Foundation has changed its charter and become Cortland Community Foundation. The Foundation will be able to continue providing much-needed assistance now that it can accept tax deductible donations from the public.
The goal of Cortland Community Foundation is to grow an endowment that will continually benefit Cortland County through grant making and other charitable activities, while also working with those who help fund the Foundation accomplish their charitable goals.
The Foundation’s new mission provides a vehicle through which donors with diverse philanthropic interests can make gifts to benefit the community. Tax deductible gifts may be made by cash equivalents, securities, life insurance policies, pension funds, bequests and charitable trusts.
Donations may be allocated to non-for-profit agencies at the discretion of the Board of Directors, or donors may direct their contributions through Donor Advised Accounts that are handled by the Foundation on their behalf.
